Exchange Program
Research exchanges with foreign universities and research institutes
The School of Mechanical Engineering at Korea University (the School) has been engaging in researcher exchanges with foreign universities and research institutes through various channels to promote the internationalization of research while focusing on diversifying international research exchanges and supporting inbound exchange programs. Additionally, the School has leveraged MOUs, MOAs, and LOIs signed with world-renowned research institutes in the US, Germany, Japan, and the UK and world-class scholars, paving the way for further research collaborations. This global network enables students to unlock their research potential and deliver tangible educational and research results.
The School prioritizes nurturing creative global talent by capitalizing on diversified research exchanges and resulting consilience education driven by convergence, communication, and contribution.
- As part of its effort to diversify international research exchanges, the School has taken the initiative to promote short- and long-term overseas training programs and international joint research.
- The School offers dual/joint degree, student exchange, and academic exchange programs with 13 universities in 9 countries, and many graduate students are working on their research and theses under the joint guidance of renowned overseas scholars.
- In collaboration with foreign research institutes and universities, the School has hosted numerous international workshops, educational programs, and symposiums, providing students with opportunities for international exchanges and laying the foundation for the internationalization of research.
Instead of dispatching domestic talent to overseas exchange programs, the School has striven to promote inbound research exchanges, inviting renowned international scholars and promising new talent while establishing reciprocal partnerships with leading overseas institutions.
- Prominent foreign scholars are currently involved in teaching graduate courses, delivering special lectures, and conducting joint research on a long-term basis.
- The School has established a long-term collaboration system with leading overseas universities and research institutes, an example of which is the joint research conducted in Korea involving researchers from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC, the US), King Saud University (KSU, Saudi Arabia), and the Institute of Physics of Materials (Czech Republic).
- To help graduate students stay motivated in research and develop insights into the latest research trends, the School has invited globally respected scholars for online academic seminars.
Educational exchanges with foreign universities
The School is keen to take full advantage of consilience education to foster globally competent mechanical engineers and contribute to creating sustainable future value. It plans to establish an education and research hub through mutually beneficial partnerships with leading overseas institutions. For global joint research and globalization of education, Korea University is operating a dual/joint degree program through academic and student exchange agreements with 1,086 universities/institutions in 100 countries as of March 2023. In line with this initiative, the School is offering dual/joint degree, student exchange, and academic exchange programs with 13 universities in 9 countries in collaboration with the College of Engineering.
